# Institution directory and connection guides QA

## Scope

* `/institutions`
* 27 explicit `/help/connect-*` routes rendered from the shared catalog in
  `lib/institutions/catalog.ts`
* Existing E\*TRADE, Interactive Brokers, and Morgan Stanley guides
* Current staging `PublicStatusBanner`, `SiteTopNav`, and `SiteFooter`
* Scoped institution theme based on the staging blog redesign
* Canonical metadata, index/follow directives, Open Graph and X metadata,
  JSON-LD, and sitemap entries

The directory contains 30 unique guide destinations. Twenty-seven use explicit
route files and a shared catalog-backed renderer, while the three existing
guides retain their static routes. There is no wildcard `/help/[slug]` route,
so existing and future non-institution help pages remain outside this feature.

## Logo provenance

Twenty-seven logo files are the original PNG bytes displayed by Plaid's public
Sandbox Link institution picker. Their paths, institution IDs, byte sizes, and
SHA-256 hashes are recorded in `docs/INSTITUTION-LOGO-SOURCES.json`; all 27
files were re-hashed successfully during this QA pass.

Plaid did not render an exact logo for Vanguard, Merrill, or Interactive
Brokers in that public picker. Those three use existing repository assets and
are documented as fallbacks rather than represented as Plaid downloads. Every
logo is rendered with `object-contain` on a white canvas so dark or transparent
brand artwork remains legible in the dark editorial design.

The first production build attempt exhausted Node's default 4 GB heap during
the repository-wide webpack compile. The final 8 GB build passed after
supplying non-secret local placeholder values for the existing service clients
that are constructed during route collection. No live service was contacted.
The build generated all 505 static pages, including the 27 catalog-backed
institution guides.

## Browser verification

Browser checks cover desktop and mobile layouts, directory filtering, every
guide route, image load state, page overflow, framework overlays, console
errors, navigation/footer presence, metadata output, and screenshots of the
directory plus representative catalog-backed and static help pages.

Axe could not automatically resolve the color contrast of the existing global
sign-up button because its background is a gradient; it reported that check as
incomplete rather than a violation. Screenshots were captured at 1440 px and
390 px widths for the directory, a catalog-backed guide, and the E\*TRADE static
guide.

## Silvia navigation skill

The companion update for `CFO-Silvia/skills` is checked in as
`docs/patches/institution-guides-navigation.patch`. It was validated against
skills `origin/main` at `6d7068d44a7d9238b91c7b4cdf30573dc501b673`
with `git apply --check --unidiff-zero`. The available GitHub identity has
read-only access to that repository, and the organization disables forks, so a
maintainer must apply the patch, open the companion PR, and deploy the merged
skill to the `silvia-skills` S3 bucket.
